Dear
Friends:
I am long overdue for sending out an update. I am enjoying the winter
thus far though the locals complain that it has been cold. I got a chuckle
out of friends fromVancouver yesterday. We were in an elevator and the
gentleman packing the luggage and I were having a conversation. I began
commenting on how lousy the weather has been and he agreed. When Garry
and Evelyn asked me what we were talking about. I told them and they were
surprised that anyone would complain about the tropical weather.
I originally gave away all of my winter sweaters, jackets and long pants
when I first moved to Los Cabos 3 years ago. I am now somewhat regretful
of that decision, though I have needed warm clothing about 10 times yearly
and mainly on my Canadian return visits. Okay enough bragging about the
weather yet again.
On the real estate scene, the activity was rampant over the holidays and
is still carrying some momentum through to the end of January. The marine
is taking shape as well as the hotels going up along the beach in San
Jose. I had the opportunity to viewThe Grand Baja thanks to Garry and
Evelyn staying there. It is in the area of 200 rooms and has a gorgeous
pool area. The hotel has been open for only 6 months and though not full,
somehow they feel a need to build yet more hotels.
The Mayan Resort hotel and Pueblo Bonito, another hotel chain both have
purchases sites on the east cape and promise to bring asphalt to the coastline.
Property in the East Cape area has become scarce and prices are on the
rise with the coast road reaching now almost to Punta Gorda (9 miles)
with pavement.
There are a number of main streets in Cabo and San Jose which have been
finished in concrete to accomodate the heavy traffic anticipated. Along
with these projects we are expecting soon another block store for groceries
in San Jose and a Home Depot is on the way. We have had Costco now for
almost a year and the block stores just keep coming.
I have tried to keep this letter informative and would like to share with
you some interesting statistics I learned yesterday. Los Cabos is 1,332.8
sq miles or 852,992 acres. We entertained 105,000,000 tourists in 2002
up from around 100,000,000 in 2001. The growth projections for our area
have us at around 450,000 people within 5 years.
Aside from the growth and optimistic future, I can tell you that living
in Los Cabos is a pleasure and have met very few people who visited that
did not fall in love. I welcome you to enjoy the charm of old Mexico combined
with fantastic climate and wonderful people.
Adios
