Sea of Cortez
The SEA of CORTEZ
runs the distance
of the Baja Peninsula
and is one of the
youngest bodies
of salt water. The
Baja slowly moved away
from the mainland of
Mexico some 5 million
years ago created by
the San Andres Fault.
The Sea of Cortez
is one of the richest
marine environments
providing a vast
spectrum of sea life.
It is the home to
numerous types of
whales, several
differentspecies of dolphins, turtles andbig game fish. The best
time to whale watch is during the months of November to March
with the peak months of the whale migration being from January
to March. The Cape region is noted as one of the worlds
best places for game fishing, with the best season being during
hurricane season from July to early October. To preserve the
beauty and ecosystems of the Baja and Sea of Cortez, Catch and
Release is a common and wise practice.
If you prefer to be interactive with the marine life snorkeling
and scuba diving are among the best in the world. With the Sea
of Cortez having one of the only three living reefs in North
America you are only a short drive away when located in San Jose
Del Cabo. The Sea of Cortez offers exceptional snorkeling and
scuba diving for all levels of expertise.
Along with these activities surfing is also another popular
activity with Zippers beach being the best in the Los Cabos area,
only a 5 min.drive from San Jose Del Cabo.
